You say that, but more than 80% of 2800 reviews on sem quite happy. For what it is, it actually does a great job. For the family man, this keeps the people happy and the tech support questions to Dad at a minimum.... For power users, well, that's a different story. Personally I'd prefer a more expensive, small HTPC approach, I just don't have the time.
This statement is utter BS. I have three of these Nvidia Shield around the house, over for every TV. These things play everything with no issues whatsoever.
Interesting - there's a combo just below the main price, Shield + Alexa device for $157. If you deselect the (required) Alexa Device, it shows as $107, but you can't add it to your cart. Adding both gets you just the Alexa Dot. Maybe you could argue that with customer service.

This is by far the best "official" TV box out there. You may find higher specs on Chinese unbranded TV boxes, but you won't get Netflex HD and other apps' features that require an officially licensed device.
Just checked, and price is still available. However, I would be wary. Ordered one for $107 back in Sept 2018, and it was never delivered. Seller refused to respond to order inquiries. Not sure how they benefit from posting such "too good to be true" pricing...
I was going to buy one of these and then found out my new 2018 Samsung Q7FN plays 4K HDR files off a USB and Plex can do it as well. If you have a decent Smart TV there is no need for this I found out unless you need the Android OS.
Still the best Android TV box on the market, and AFAIK, the only one that can also be used as a Plex Server; it's also the only one to officially support Prime Video, thanks to Nvidia cutting a deal with them, the only one that does Dolby Vision HDR, and apparently the only one to have a Dolby License, which means less potential issues getting surround to play correctly on your AV receiver.
I'd be all over this if I hadn't picked up a Mi Box S for $20 during Black Friday - it's definitely better in nearly every way, except for the remote, which I hear sucks (but which you can easily and cheaply replace with a Fire TV remote), and, of course, the price. But I have a full-fat HTPC attached to my living room TV anyway, and the Mi Box S does just fine as a bedroom TV device.
Still kind of want one, though, since I have to admit my little Mi Box has shown me a lot of upsides to a single-purpose media device, and this is still by far the best one currently out there.
