My question was if this does any better than the built in microphone in my DSLR and the answer seems to be probably not.

Too bad for a product with a Marantz namesake.

I had pretty good success with HTDZ shotgun microphone that sells for about $40. Huge difference between the built-in mic. Light enough to be mounted in a flash hotshoe.
