    Bought this for my toddler...SLOW as heck. Slow, slow, slow, slow. So disappointed. Then again, it was only $35, but when you're kid is crying and you're trying to distract them you want to throw this thing out the window while it boots up or loads a book or program.

    I got 2 during the last
    BestBuy
    deal. I agree that they're slow. Rotating portrait to landscape, waiting for menus, and surfing the web specifically. Definitely not the device I grab if I'm looking for a fast answer. Good for light gaming, Facebook, music, and watching videos.

    I don't know why people are saying it's slow. I've been using the HD 8 for almost a year and it's quite speedy. Is the HD 7 really that much slower?

    The Fire HD 8 is noticeably faster than the 7. Make sure to turn on low-power mode (40-10%), otherwise the device eats through the battery, even on standby. It's not like an ipad that can go weeks without being used and still have battery life. While using it, the battery life is decent.
