1GB of ram seems too low for windows but they don't have an option to upgrade that I can see. Is that why these are going for so cheap?

Best to spend the additional $30 and go with a refurb Venue 8 Pro 5000 that has 2GB of RAM and the dual-channel Wi-Fi. Had to call their Outlet line to extend the 40% coupon.

Make sure you update the bios. My Venue 8 Pro 5000 has ELEVEN revisions. Trust me, you'll need it for Windows 10 (screen blanking issue)

Additionally, a 32GB hard drive is NOT sufficient space after the OS and several utilities are loaded. The 64GB hard drive model is much more preferred, which takes us back to the original V8Pro with 2GB RAM.

Not sure if the TABLET40% coupon still works, but I got a refurb 5830 model (2GB/32GB) for $113. Came in defective and they swapped it out for a 2GB/64GB at no charge. Either way, you'll want the 2GB of RAM, trust me.

The newer wimboot installations make this better. They utilize the recovery partition in order to eliminate some file redundancy. I believe they also apply some compression. I have a HP Stream 7 32GB tablet that employed this and it had 10GB free after initial setup and updates. It also has only 1GB of RAM. I can run a Firefox browser with several tabs, Outlook 2013 and Onenote without performance taking too deep of a dive. It's not a rocket, and will definitely lag sometimes, but is certainly usable for a few apps.

People keep overestimating how much space an OS and apps really need. You guys know how to delete files and uninstall things right? You know you aren't using 50% of the bloatware you install after the fact, right? You know you can add a 32GB mSDHC card?

Frankly, the last thing I want on a budget priced tablet is more money sunk into built in storage that you can't reuse when you upgrade to something else, plus it's handy to put sensitive data on a removable card should you be scrutinized by TSA, border checkpoint agents, police, etc.
