No, carbon-zinc are not great for high-drain devices. They are the opposite of great for high-drain devices. Carbon-zinc is the worst-suited chemistry for anything but the lowest-drain devices.
I would use these in low-power flashlights, geiger counters, and other things that were designed to cope with the pathetically high internal resistance of the carbon-zinc cell. Nothing modern.
